The Community-Based REDD+ (CBR+) Initiative, a partnership of the UN-REDD Programme and the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), supports indigenous peoples and forest dependent communities to engage in REDD+ through small grants (up to US $50,000), capacity building and knowledge exchange. A CBR+ funded project to empower indigenous women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was recently highlighted in a powerful photo essay "Guardians of the Forest

Indigenous representatives discussed progress in using community grants to promote grassroots inclusion in REDD+ with UN-REDD and the SGP and FAO held exchanges with indigenous youth at this annual meeting for indigenous leaders from around the world.

Technical experts gathered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire at the fourth and final  regional “Training the Trainers” Workshop to share their knowledge on REDD+ Monitoring, and Measurement, Reporting and Verification. The workshop was hosted by the Global Forest Observation Initiative (GFOI) & GOFC-GOLD from 6-10 February 2017.

Colombia’s National REDD+ Academy training session was designed to improve the knowledge of Afro-Colombian and indigenous leaders across the country on REDD+, and to strengthen their capacities for political and technical dialogue with different stakeholders. The event went under the name of the National Interethnic REDD+ School, and was held in Bogotá from 3-5 August 2016.

La Academia Nacional REDD+ de Colombia es un espacio pensado para mejorar el conocimiento de líderes afro e indígenas de todo el país sobre REDD+, en el que se fortalecen sus capacidades para la interlocución política y técnica con diferentes actores. El evento, que en Colombia llamaron Escuela Nacional Interétnica REDD+, se llevó a cabo en Bogotá de 3-5 de agosto de 2016.

On Sunday, 8 November, the UN-REDD Programme and the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility jointly organized the 2015 Global REDD+ Knowledge Exchange. The event brought together 100+ participants from 30+ countries for a country-led event in which countries shared their REDD+ experiences on eight key topics. The event was webcast live, and individual session videos are now available for viewing and sharing.
