As a part of Zambia’s REDD+ readiness, the UN-REDD Programme has been supporting several fundamental studies to feed into Zambia’s REDD+ strategy. In the last year, FAO has launched different consultancies and provided backstopping support to develop an operational measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) system for Zambia. The following report lays the basis for a national IPCC compliant GHG reporting methodology. The methodology is in line with key UNFCCC REDD+ Decisions and IPCC guidance for estimating anthropogenic forested related GHG emissions by sources and removals by sinks, forest carbon stocks and forest area changes in the context of REDD+. The report reviews international UNFCCC and IPCC reporting requirements for emission factors, activity data and GHG as well as national reporting particularities, compiles relevant data on emission factors, activity data and GHG emissions in Zambia, and identifies gaps and ways to fill them.
