A beta version of Geodecisión: una herramienta espacial flexible para orientar la toma de decisiones ambientales (Geodecision: a flexible spatial tool to help guide environmental decision-making), was launched in Lima, Peru, on 30 May 2016.  A series of events took place to introduce the tool and to allow potential users to explore its functionalities, attended by approximately 50 participants from the government, NGOs and the private sector.  


Geodecisión is an open-access online spatial tool that can be used to help identify and prioritize suitable areas for REDD+ and other sustainable land-use actions and investments in Peru.  The tool allows users to visualize, query and download information and analytical reports based on the data layers available, which include land-use and land-cover categories; carbon; biodiversity and other ecosystem services; and existing conservation initiatives, among others.

The tool was developed by Peru’s Ministry of Environment (MINAM) and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), in collaboration with a national software development consultancy, as part of a UNEP UN-REDD Targeted Support.
