Upcoming event:

ASIA-PACIFIC SOUTH-SOUTH LEARNING EVENT ON COUNTRY APPROACHES TO REDD+ SAFEGUARDS AND SAFEGUARDS INFORMATION SYSTEMS 

Viet Nam’s Forestry Administration - with support from SNV- the Netherlands Development Organisation and the UN-REDD Programme – will convene a South-South knowledge exchange event to share experiences on country approaches to REDD+ safeguards and safeguards information systems (SIS). The two-day event will be attended by sixty representatives of nine Asian countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, Papua New Guinea. The knowledge exchange will benefit from inter-regional cross-fertilisation through the attendance representatives from the other two REDD+ regions: Ghana for Africa and Peru for Latin America.

The event will take place 26-27 October 2017 at the Army Hotel, in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

The event is structured around three themes:

  1.        Ensuring REDD+ activities are carried out in consistency with the UNFCCC ‘Cancun’ safeguards
  2.        Developing the SIS and summaries of information
  3.        Additional relevant international safeguard requirements of the Forest Carbon Partnership facility and the Green Climate Fund

The objective of this event is to share experiences and lessons learned to date on meeting international safeguard requirements for REDD+, and developing SIS, and to discuss common challenges, opportunities and potential solutions among REDD+ countries in the Asia region.
