The Forestry Commission of Ghana - with support from Climate, Law & Policy; SNV- the Netherlands Development Organisation and the UN-REDD Programme – will convene a South-South knowledge exchange event to share experiences on country approaches to REDD+ safeguards and safeguards information systems (SIS). The two-day event will be attended by sixty representatives of ten countries: Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Uganda and Zambia. The knowledge exchange will benefit from inter-regional inputs through the attendance of representatives from the other two REDD+ regions: Vietnam for Asia and Peru for Latin America.

The event will take place 12-13 June 2018 in Accra, Ghana.

The objective of this workshop is to share experiences and lessons learned to date on meeting international safeguard requirements for REDD+, and to discuss common challenges, opportunities and potential solutions among REDD+ countries in the Africa region. The event is structured around three themes:

1.              How to address and respect REDD+ safeguards

2.              How to develop a SIS

3.              How to access results-based payments with safeguards information
