Description:
National forest monitoring and assessment (NFM) provides the information countries need to manage their forests sustainably and meet national and international reporting requirements. The forest monitoring process includes data collection, analysis, and dissemination to a variety of stakeholders, and is shaped by country-specific monitoring needs and environmental conditions. This process also typically uses a national forest inventory (NFI) as the data collection tool that drives other NFM activities. The experience that countries gain from this process is invaluable to their neighbouring countries, and it can be expected that exchanging ideas and collaborations will strengthen national capabilities for NFM. Therefore, there is an opportunity for each country to learn and benefit from each other, particularly in a facilitated workshop environment that promotes long-term networking. For these purposes, the Bangladesh Forest Department desires to share its experiences with implementing the Bangladesh Forest Inventory (BFI) and exchange ideas related to forest monitoring and assessment with other countries in the region. Regional Exchange Workshop on Forest Monitoring and Assessment is organized by USAID, SilvaCarbon and FAO with contribution from the UN-REDD Programme. Invited Countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines and Pakistan.
