Ecuador Announcements

A UN-REDD joint mission for the finalization of Ecuador's National Programme Document (NPD) took place 11 to 14 July, following the CBD workshop.

On 7 June, the UN-REDD Programme and Ecuador hosted a successful joint side event on REDD+ Safeguards. Over a hundred people participated in the event, with presentations from Viet Nam, the CCBA and Tebtebba on various components of implementing and providing information on safeguards for REDD+. The UN-REDD Programme’s latest newsletter, readers hear from partner countries, civil society organizations and donors about their evolving commitment to REDD+ and UN-REDD; Ecuador highlights next steps in developing and implementing its national REDD+ strategy; and overviews of the Programme’s draft Social and Environmental Principles and Criteria, presented at the last Policy Board meeting and of the emerging landscape on anti-corruption and REDD+ are presented.

On the occasion of its 6th meeting in March 2011 in Da Lat, Viet Nam, the UN-REDD Programme Policy Board approved a budget allocation of US $ 4 million for Ecuador's national UN-REDD Programme.

A delegation from Viet Nam, led by Vice-Minister for Forestry H.E. Hua Duc Nhi, is visiting Mexicoand Ecuador from 5 to 13 April to learn from the Latin American experiences in community forestry, Payment for Environmental Services and financing mechanisms for the forestry sector. The visit will also serve to strengthen the ties between the three countries in REDD+ implementation and is one of the first practical exchanges of the emerging South-South collaboration on REDD+.
