Africa Announcements

On 17-19 September, the regional African workshop "Planning for REDD+: Incorporating multiple benefits and safeguards” was held in Nairobi, attended by 45 participants from 16 countries, alongside donor, civil society and indigenous people's representatives. The aim of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of countries preparing to implement REDD+ safeguards to mitigate potential harm from REDD+ while enhancing the potential for social and environmental benefits.

The UN-REDD Programme's new discussion forum on Gender Sensitive REDD+ is seeking inputs from LAC, Africa and Asia-Pacific. All country-level experiences and lessons learned are welcome!

The UN-REDD Programme was pleased to take the opportunity of the ninth Policy Board meeting last week in Republic of the Congo to launch its Africa Lessons Learned booklet, now available for download in English, French and Spanish.

The UN-REDD Programme seeks to identify four Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Representatives to its Policy Board: one CSO from each of the Programme's three regions (Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America-Caribbean) and one CSO from a developed country. This is the final week to submit a nomination. All nominations must be received by August 3rd. Voting will take place from 10-31 August; final results will be announced on September 10th, 2012. Read more here.

The UN‐REDD Programme is seeking to identify four Civil Society Organization (CSO) representatives to its Policy Board: one CSO from each of the Programme’s three regions (Africa, Asia‐Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean) and one CSO from a developed country. July 13, 2012 marks the start of a three‐week nomination period for the self‐selection process, which will end on 3 August, 2012, to be followed by a three‐week voting period from 10-31 August 2012. The UN-REDD Programme in Indoensia has released a report on Central Sulawesi's Readiness to Implement REDD+ after 2012 along with a Q & A on UN-REDD Programme Indonesia's Pilot Province: Central Sulawesi to shed more light on the Provincial REDD+ Working Group's efforts in the pilot province. Read more on the Working Group.
