PGA South-South Exchange April 2012

(28)

The four PGA pilot countries are currently at different stages of implementation, and have expressed a need to share knowledge and experience thus far to learn from each other. Acknowledging that the PGA pilots are work in progress and upon the expressed interest from the four pilot countries to share knowledge and experience thus far, the UN-REDD Programme and UNDP Indonesia will facilitate an Exchange Meeting for the four PGA pilot countries to accommodate the need for discussing process oriented, strategic, substantive and methodological aspects and challenges related to the PGAs, and to look for ways to overcome these issues.

Although the primary target audience for this workshop is representatives from government, civil society
and the coordinator of the PGA process in the four PGA pilot countries, countries beyond the current four pilot countries have expressed interest to learn more about the approach and have been invited. As such, government representatives from Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Zambia will also be participating.

By gathering both PGA practitioners from the four pilot countries, involved in different facets of the PGA process, as well as government representatives who have not previously been exposed to the PGA for REDD+ approach, the purpose of this workshop is multi-faceted:

  • raise awareness on the PGA for REDD+ approach and highlight its relevance for
    national REDD+ processes
  • facilitate knowledge-sharing between countries and practitioners with a view to strengthen
    in-country PGA processes
  • establish a community of practice made of all those involved in PGAs for REDD+
  • assess the need for a “Guide to PGAs for REDD+” and develop an understanding of what to
include in such Guide introducing other UN-REDD tools available to complement the PGA approach in addressing REDD+ governance issues
